El Filibusterismo Kabanata 2- "Ilalim ng Kubyerta"
Buod:
Isyung Panlipunan:
•Ang Pag-iinom ng Alak

React to a Fact
TRIVIAS:
1. Liu Bang had a bit of a superiority complex, to say the least. When he became the first Han emperor, he declared; “At last, the whole world is mine.” He had control over a territory half as large as modern China. Liu despised learned Confucians whom he identified by their distinctive peaked hats. Upon encountering them, he would snatch the hat from the head and pee in it.
Me: I didn't know that he's so mean. He's one of the emperors that I like (maybe because Liu Bang rhymes with my friend's last name, Liu Chiang) in our Social Studies book. This guy knows how to troll.
2. A man survived multiple murder attempts by his "friends". His name was Michael Malloy, and after all this, he became known as Mike the Durable and Iron Mike. He was a homeless Irishman living in New York city in the 1920s. He was most famous because 5 acquaintances tried to murder him to collect on life insurance policies that they took out on him.
3. Crime-fighting vigilantes dressed in disguise are the stuff of comic books or blockbuster films, not real life. Ken Andre would disagree with this. The 33-year-old father of two calls himself "Shadow" and uses his martial arts skills to keep the streets of Yeovil, Somerset in the UK safe.
*I put an 's' to trivia and all the Grammar Nazis go crazy. Hihhihi*

He was a homeless Irishman living in New York city in the 1920s. He was most famous because 5 acquaintances tried to murder him to collect on life insurance policies that they took out on him.
Three of the 5 got policies on Malloy, which came up to be over $3500 (in 2011 dollars, over $60,000). This set off the plot to kill him. One of the conspirators owned a bar, and gave Malloy unlimited credit, thinking that he would drown himself to death in alcohol. When he did not die in alcoholism, they mixed in antifreeze instead of liquor. Malloy still lived. Then, they substituted it with turpentine, horse liniment and even, rat poison. He still lived.
They tried feeding him raw oysters soaked in methanol, and then a sandwich of spoiled sardines mixed with poison and carpet tacks. Their attempts got more and more ridiculous! They eventually decided to see if they could freeze him to death.
On a night that reached -14F, Malloy blacked out drinking. The murderers carried him to a park, poured 5 gallons of water on his bare chest and left him to die. He came back for a drink the next day. Then they hit him with a cab at 45 miles per hour. Iron Mike still lived.
They finally managed to kill him one night when they strapped him to a gas hose and turned it on. He was pronounced dead of lobar pneumonia. However, there was justice in this case. The 5 men squabbled too much on how to divide the loot and when the police heard rumors of Mike the Durable, they investigated and it led to their arrest. 4 were given the electric chair.
Me: Poor guy though. What kind of people are his "friends"? They deserve more than an electric chair. I should have wrote what kind of torture they deserved but I don't want to veeerry violent cause it involves blood, lots of it, some parts of the body, vehicles, sharp objects, ropes, boiling water, chemicals, and public humiliation.
Andre is an ex-military guard and an expert in the Japanese art of Ninjutsu. He wears black Ninjutsu robes and a hearing aid when he patrols at night. The hearing aid amplifies sounds so he's able to detect cries for help. Andre's vigilantism started when he was young and would see his mother beaten up by abusive boyfriends. He vowed he would not sit idly by and watch such things happen.
Andre says that he is "a force for good." He fights drug dealers, gang members, muggers, abusive boyfriends, etc. With his martial art skills and a wooden pole. "Shadow" defuses the situation and then fades back into the night before police arrive.
Me: He is supermegafoxyawesome!!! He's better than those comic book characters cause he's real. The world would be a better place if there were more people like him. This guy deserves a medal.

Swimming Class, More Fun in Assumption!
8 Reasons why I like swimming class:
1. I love swimming.
2. Stress therapy from Math, Physics, Calculus.
3. Sir Cortez gave me Os since 1st year. I hope he gives me one this year too.
4. I have perfect attendance for the last 3 years.
5. It's okay if we're noisy.
6. No numbers and equations are involved.
7. No essays, quizzes, mastery tests, projects, and exams.
8. It's easy. No stress.

Last Swimming Class! :(
Today was our last swimming class ever in Assumption-Iloilo, #18 Gen. Luna St., Iloilo City. Aaawww....how sad naman. No more wet hair in between classes. No more last minute runs to the classroom hoping that the teacher still hasn't arrived. No more shirtless Sir Cortez shouting "5 laps freestyle, 5 laps backstroke". No more chlorine-smelling classmates. Too bad we never got the chance to push Sir Cortez into the pool.

A Reason to Live
A Reason to
Live
Why do I
have a homely face?
Why is my
brain a mere empty space?
Why can’t
things go my own way?
Why is my
life in such disarray?
Oh, such
cruel fate!
I wish I
could change my state.
Be like
her, brain and beauty.
Live in a
castle with tons of money.
I prayed
to God to clear my mind,
Hoping
that an answer I’ll find.
Engrossed
with my loved ones’ memories,
Thought
about the burden each one carries.
I suddenly
found reason to live,
Happiness
to them I shall give.
Because to
the world I may mean nothing,
But to
them I may be everything.
I wrote this poem last year. It's my version and understanding of Shakespeare's Sonnet 29.
SONNET 29
When, in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes,
I all alone beweep my outcast state
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possess'd,
Desiring this man's art and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remember'd such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
Divergent Sneak Peaks!
Divergent will be on theaters soon... I mean next year, March 21, 2014. But I don't care as long as the movie's coming out! So, before I start raving about how excited I am for the movie, here's a brief summary of the book that I got from the author's blog (veronicarothbooks.blogspot.com).
Tris looks fearful as she barely escapes the knife.
So, that's all folks! I hope that you'll look forward to seeing this movie too and if you haven't read the book, I've got two words for you, "Read it".
I'm so excited I think I'm gonna pee!!! Kbye! ;)
In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.
During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris, and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together, they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes-fascinating, sometimes-exasperating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret: one she’s kept hidden from everyone, because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly-perfect society, she also learns that her secret might be what helps her save those she loves . . . or it might be what destroys her.

Now that you know what it's all about (or maybe you already read the book, well, hooray for you!) I'll show you some pictures from the set that I got from www.eonline.com. Okay, here we go...
Beatris "Tris" Prior punching the bags as her onscreen love interest keeps an eye out.
Tris looks stunned above all the grabbing hands.
Tris looks calm as Tori operates the machines.
sOne of my personal favorites, the 'Ferris wheel scene'.
\
Tobias watches as Tris focuses on her shooting skills.
Tris doesn't want to be taken.
Tris looks fearful as she barely escapes the knife.
The 'Knife Scene' is one of the most intense scenes. Gaah!

Don't Think Just Live (And Die Early)
So I was looking through pictures at weheartit.com to find a good background picture when I saw this and thought it was perfect since I love the beach and the color blue. Anyways, I saved it and when I was about to upload it, the words registered to me and I said to myself, "This is stupid. This won't do." I mean yeah, you can live without thinking if you want to die early or live a life of regret. Life would be reckless and pointless like a blind man driving a tank into a city while texting. People would do what they want without considering the consequences. For example, "I want to have fun and live life to the extreme so I will run naked in Antarctica with the penguins and shoot the polar bears with a bazooka while eating a burrito!". Okaaay, that was absurd, but you get my point right? So the bottom-line is is, "Don't just live. Think about how to make your life worth living." Do what you want as long as it makes you happy and no one gets hurt in the process.
